Is It Mom Rage Or…?

Mom Rage… This feeling and word comes up SO MUCH in my space with parents. In a recent article in Vogue, Kate Borsato, a Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Therapist that I have been following for a long time, was interviewed about why so many moms resonate with this.

Anger and overwhelm can lead to our nervous systems feeling dysregulated, which is why it can be so beneficial to practice nervous system regulation strategies to bring us back into more of a regulated state.

What are some of the things you notice when you start to reach your “boiling over” point? What are some of the things you do in order to bring yourself back down? Or to release the shame you may feel?

A few things that can be really beneficial for a lot of folks for nervous system regulation are incorporating some quick and effective breathing techniques, muscle tensing and relaxing, dancing, singing, sighing, and some of my favourites include using sensory things such as scents (peppermint, lavender, etc), sensations (fuzzy blanket, comfy clothes, cold water, etc), or sounds (singing your favourite songs, etc).

If you find yourself to be overwhelmed in motherhood, taking time for yourself in a therapy setting can be extremely beneficial. This is a non-judgemental zone and something so many other moms struggle with.
