Blueberries, Your Brain, And Blood Pressure
I love blueberries. They are my favourite fruit.
There are profound impacts on your health when you regularly eat whole, healthy foods. I wanted to share with you some of the health benefits of eating blueberries!
One of the greatest benefits of blueberries is that they are rich in antioxidants and are very nutrient dense. Nutrient density simply means that a food is rich in substances we need to grow and live healthy lives all the while being relatively low in calories.
Antioxidants are important to everyone’s diet because they help protect your body against free radicals. These free radicals are unstable molecules that contribute to aging and poor health. Here are a couple more reasons you may want to increase your blueberry intake:
One of the largest studies conducted on blueberries yielded amazing results. The study looked at 16,000 individuals over the age of 70 years old, over the course of 6 years.
The researchers found that a greater intake of berries, primarily blueberries, correlated with a slower brain aging process in those individuals. The benefit to their increase in berry intake actually showed that those individuals had slowed their brain aging process by up to 2.5 years!
Blueberries not only affect your brain health, they also have significant benefits for those who have high blood pressure, which is a risk factor for heart disease.
This benefit seems to arise when you eat between 300-400 grams of blueberries over the course of 8 weeks. There was even a study that tested these numbers and found that people had between a 4-6% reduction in their systolic and diastolic blood pressure!
